Curtis Von Schimmelmann, CPA, CIA, CGMA
Curtis has more than 30 years of experience in gaming audit. He began his career as an internal auditor for a Nevada corporation that owned and managed seven casinos across the country. He rose from Assistant Internal Auditor to lead the company’s Corporate IT Audit department, auditing every gaming area as well as hotel operations, food and beverage, marketing, purchasing, employee benefits and information technology. As an Audit Senior there, he passed the Certified Internal Auditor exam on the first sitting.
He was then recruited by a regional public accounting firm as its Director of Internal Audit Services, overseeing internal audit engagements at Tribal gaming facilities across the United States. In that role he performed MICS compliance audits and audited the financial statements of Tribes, Tribal gaming operations and other Tribally owned enterprises.
Curtis holds degrees in Political Science and Economics from the University of Nevada, where he went on to complete the Accounting Program, and passed the CPA exam in 2000. He has taught accounting at the college level and has presented at numerous conferences and seminars.
